Hey there Scout. I'm Brooklyn. For me, painting is just a notch below breathing. I started doing it before I can remember, and now it's a simple fact of life. My mom tells me it began with finger paint, and I kept going through a BFA Studio Art Program in college. Sharing my art is scary. What if no one likes it? Or worse, what if no one feels anything when they see it? I started making clothing because the idea that someone might like my art enough to actually live a day in it is electric to me. It's still scary, but it feels alive and real.
My heart is in New York, but I have Southern California roots and I am on a temporary stay in Boston while my husband is in school. My favorite Game of Thrones character is Arya Stark, obviously. And my favorite Chrissy Teigan recipe is Rotochick Chicken Noodle Soup.
Who is Scout? She's the tiny adventurers of the world. She's your little one. She's my baby girl. I fell in love with painting, because I had a grandmother who saw a little girl covered in finger paint and decided to give her weekly painting lessons. I studied Studio Art despite the "what job are you going to get with that?" critics, because I had a mother who taught her daughter to have the courage to chase her dreams. Sincerely Scout is playful apparel to bring out the explorers and the experimenters, the artists and the rebels inside our little girls. If a watercolor pretzel can help a little one dream bigger, then it is worth all of the effort to me.
If you haven't guessed it already - yes, Sincerely Scout is 100% named after my favorite rebellious little (fictitious) girl, Scout Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird. She inspired me to be a little braver, and to believe a little more in myself. I'm hoping I can help her keep doing that.
